What I enjoy most...
Very hard to get right all the verticals straight, a great range of tones and detail in every part the image
Observer comments for 'Escalier de la Libraire, North Transept, Rouen Cathedral, Normandie'

What I enjoy most...
Pleasant black and white record shot with a lot of texture
In my opinion, even better if...
You probably tried a few different angles and crops. Did you try just focusing on the steps and the door rather than trying to get the whole thing in?
*Name removed*
What I enjoy most...
is how the geometry is captured and moves the eye up.
In my opinion, even better if...
it were cropped to remove the edge of the arch on the left side.

What I enjoy most...
Very Strong image, Composition perfect.
In my opinion, even better if...
Base needs lightening up a fraction, improved when viewed for a while as more details came out the longer I looked.
*Name removed* (18)
What I enjoy most...
is the dreamy, God-like quality of the image.
In my opinion, even better if...
you would consider about a 10% crop on the left to allow a clean sweep of the fog and clouds across the entire image.

What I enjoy most...
beautiful place diffused with the mist
In my opinion, even better if...
It doesn't work for me in black and white. Maybe you took the colour out for a reason such as there being something distracting but I miss the colour in such a wonderful location

What I enjoy most...
I love the light in this picture.

What I enjoy most...
is the wonderful clarity of the image. The softness and tones of the background are lovely. The blossom is also placed well in the image.
In my opinion, even better if...
you might investigate a creative way to shoot the same subject. This is a well-done straight shot, how can you make it unique?
*Name removed* (18)
What I enjoy most...
how did you keep the one seed head in the front, nice neutral background
In my opinion, even better if...
More of the image needs to be sharper

What I enjoy most...
Super sharp good depth of field

What I enjoy most...
I adored this image and it was close to being my favourite. I love the softness of the edges and sharpness of the centre. Wonderfully taken with just the right amount of focus.
In my opinion, even better if...
it had a little more contrast

What I enjoy most...
The Colours are Superb
In my opinion, even better if...
My eyes keep going to the out of focus petal under the bluebottle, darken this down a bit, eyes of the bluebottle need to be a lot sharper
*Name removed* (17)
What I enjoy most...
The main subject is super sharp, an option would be to crop in tighter and make him feel the frame, but the vignetting works as you have presented it
In my opinion, even better if...
The little band of yellow in front of the bluebottle is little bit distracting, maybe desaturating a little would lessen it
*Name removed* (19)
What I enjoy most...
is the clarity on the insect contrasting with the depth of field keeping the rear part of the blossom soft.
Observer comments for 'Bluebottle'

What I enjoy most...
Great contrast of colour between the fly and the flower. Lovely and sharp.
In my opinion, even better if...
The petal in front of the bluebottle is a little distracting and once noticed is difficult to ignore. If it could have been in more focus or darker it might be less obvious.
*Name removed*
What I enjoy most...
is how sharp the focus is on the fly. The vignette is a nice touch.
In my opinion, even better if...
the petal directly in front of the fly were slightly softened

What I enjoy most...
was the creative use of geometric forms and of color. Excellent exposure/editing style for a scene with high contrast. The image has an illustrative quality that works well.
In my opinion, even better if...
you would consider another composition, perhaps one that is a landscape orientation with the window placed on one side. A thin white border around a dark image might work very well.
*Name removed* (17)
What I enjoy most...
Well spotted and good presentation to match with the image
*Name removed* (18)
What I enjoy most...
Very clever, good technique.
Observer comments for 'Fractured planes'

What I enjoy most...
lovely abstract and touch of blue down one side sets it off nicely.
In my opinion, even better if...
perhaps a slight increase in the blue tone so it pops more. It needs just a little lift to take it that extra step in competition with the other images.
*Name removed*
What I enjoy most...
the interplay of the glass panes of the foreground and those reflected.

What I enjoy most...
Good Lighting, enjoy the pose, Sam looks relaxed and at ease with you.
I enjoy the fact that his name is brown and the image is very brown.
In my opinion, even better if...
Lighten the left eye slightly and redo the catch light in this eye as it does look as if you have added, same for the smaller catch light in the right eye.
*Name removed* (18)
What I enjoy most...
is the beautiful lighting and the lovely brown tones of the image. Your composition says to me that the musician is more important than the instrument. This is a lovely, classic portrait.
Observer comments for 'Sam Brown-guitarist'

What I enjoy most...
is how this is essentially a monochromatic shot without feeling like it is.

What I enjoy most...
Enjoy the panorama presentation and the subject matter
In my opinion, even better if...
Lower the contrast a little as a lot of either black or white areas which spoil it for me
*Name removed* (18)
What I enjoy most...
is the fairy tale quality of the image and the monochromatic scheme. I can image this printed on a large scale! Lovely.
Observer comments for 'Spire in the mist'

What I enjoy most...
church and buildings appearing through the mist
In my opinion, even better if...
There was more moodiness in the image. Perhaps cropping it more so the left hand side is more central and prominent.
*Name removed*
What I enjoy most...
is how the image captures the sense of solitude and isolation.
In my opinion, even better if...
the right side of the image were cropped just slightly (say 10-15 percent).
*Name removed*
What I enjoy most...
Beautiful composition and use of contrast
*Name removed*
What I enjoy most...
The spire and trees emerging from the mist is a well seen moment and beautifully caught.
In my opinion, even better if...
I'd darken the top a little, let it vanish (but not cut it, the edge of the mist is nice). But this is minor nit-picking about a brilliant picture.

What I enjoy most...
Good Composition, suits the square format.
In my opinion, even better if...
Butterflies need to be sharper, plus some distracting light stems, bottom left and middle left and right take my eyes from the butterflies.
Observer comments for 'Blues copulating'

What I enjoy most...
looks almost like a reflection image. I am told this is the best time to catch butterflies as they stay still longer.
In my opinion, even better if...
if it was a little sharper

What I enjoy most...
Not sure if the motion is frozen or if they are getting their breath back !
In my opinion, even better if...
Look for a different breed next time with more colour
▲ Images displayed in score order.
▼ Images displayed in a random order.
Why some images are displayed in rank order and some are not
  • Each group that participates in a competition can choose a "cut-off" score for its images. Score and position information is not displayed on images that score lower than the group's cut-off score.
  • Where images are displayed with score and position information, they are generally displayed in rank order.
  • However, when different groups choose different cut-off scores, we take the highest cut-off score of all the groups and we only display those images with a higher score in rank order. This can mean that some images appear in random order even though their score and position are on display.
